New Technologies
These two words might have been overused that they do NOT mean much, yet they are under emphasized and uncontextualized. In this post, we try to bring facts to light.
‘The one thing we are NOT discussing enough is New Technologies, the know-how and the knowledge that we will need along with it because future crisis, future wars and future conflicts will be about new technologies.’
-Sanna Marin, Prime Minister of Finland.
Here is the full video for a conversation with the Prime Minister which brings issues of Finland and Europe to perspective:
Energy is highly tied to innovation and the research & development of new technologies. These facts are backed up with data and evidence and let me present you with a crucial fact: Around 50% of technologies needed to achieve the global annual CO2 emission targets in the net zero pathway by 2050 are technologies under development (i.e., still in university labs and/or still being researched!!).
This means in simple terms that the story of the new energy economy is still being written. The supply chains of these technologies are central to the narrative. Saudi Arabia realizes the value of such investment in R&D with KAUST as a leading regional institution.
KAUST team sets world record for tandem solar cell efficiency
Researchers in the KAUST Photovoltaics Laboratory (KPV-Lab) of the KAUST Solar Center have produced a perovskite/silicon tandem solar cell with a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 33.2% - the highest tandem device efficiency in the world as of April 16, 2023, surpassing that of Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin’s (HZB) record of 32.5% PCE.
